soundSCAPE Annual Irish Residency – Call for Proposals
The Association of Irish Composers and the Contemporary Music Centre are delighted to announce the call for submissions to the annual Irish Artist-in-Residence with the soundSCAPE Festival in Italy. This residency is open to a performer or composer who is active in the new music community on the island of Ireland. The composer or performer must be born in or based on the island of Ireland. There is no age limit.
The selected artist will be invited to curate/perform a concert of contemporary Irish music at the festival and to give two presentations: on their own musical life/work, and on trends in contemporary Irish music making. The artist will also be expected to contribute to the lively discussions in the festival’s daily symposia. The festival will take place 25th June – 8th July 2017.
The Irish Residency provides roundtrip airfare, 3-4 nights’ accommodation in Maccagno and a small stipend to cover daily expenses. Interested applicants should e-mail the following materials to [email protected]
• CV
• proposal for a one-hour concert of contemporary music from Ireland (if performed by the applicant, note any pieces that require additional performers; if curated by the applicant, include details on instrumentation and any other equipment needs)
• proposed topics for the two presentations cited above.
The deadline for proposals is 5pm, Friday 10th March.

Proposals featuring the premiere of a new work are encouraged, but not necessary. soundSCAPE is open to all musical aesthetics. Proposals should offer some degree of flexibility in order to accommodate any changes that may arise when the final festival line- up is confirmed (i.e. regarding the number of pieces in the concert, or specific percussion requirements, etc). Submissions will be assessed by a combined panel from the AIC, CMC, soundSCAPE and an independent contemporary music professional. The selected artist will be announced in by the end of March.
soundSCAPE is a contemporary music festival and summer school which takes place over two weeks each year in the beautiful town of Maccagno in the Italian Alps. The festival features daily concerts and seminars from faculty, students and guest artists. Students of the summer school receive regular one-to-one tuition in contemporary music performance and composition. Most importantly, artists from all over the world meet to exchange ideas and become part of a growing international network of composers and performers.
