2nd Annual SoundSCAPE Irish Residency

Awarded to Kate Ellis

The Association of Irish Composers and the Contemporary Music Centre are delighted to announce Kate Ellis as this year's recipient of the Annual Irish Residency at the soundSCAPE Festival in Maccagno, Italy. Ellis said “It’s brilliant to have the opportunity to perform at SoundSCAPE and showcase some beautiful new works from Irish composers to an international audience.” Ellis will perform works by Ed Bennett, Adrian Hart, Judith Ring, Emma O Halloran, David Fennessy, Linda Buckley.

The festival will take place from 4th – 17th July 2014. In her role as Irish Artist-in-Residence, Kate will curate and perform a concert of contemporary Irish cello music and give a masterclass on the works featured, while also contributing to the festival’s regular composition colloquia.

The AIC was delighted to observe that the applications for the residency were of a remarkably high quality, demonstrating the very high standard and breadth of activity in contemporary music in Ireland.

The residency is now in it's second year, administered by Peter Moran, secretary of the AIC, who has a long-standing relationship with soundSCAPE. “I always loved being involved with the soundSCAPE Festival. It is a beautiful setting to work in, and there is a great sense of community among the faculty and students alike, which builds lasting artistic relationships.”

Director of the CMC, Evonne Ferguson, added; “Kate Ellis, is a true ambassador of Irish contemporary music. Having commissioned and performed so many works from Irish composers, CMC is delighted that she will curate a concert of works by Irish composers at the soundSCAPE Festival 2014. The CMC/AIC soundSCAPE Residency 2014, follows on from the success of last year's Irish residency, awarded to composer Siobhan Cleary.”
