2nd November 2009 - European Composers' Forum Assembly

The European Composers' Forum had its General Assembly in Glasgow, during ArtMusFair, from Oct 29th to Nov 1st. Progress on the various projects that ECF is developing was reported and discussed (some details on those are at http://www.composersforum.eu/?page_id=59 ), as well as plans for future projects that are not yet public, and planning on ArtMusFair 2010, which will take place in Warsaw next September. For now, the Polish Music Information Centre will host information on that while a dedicated site is being set up.

Also decided at the recent meeting was a "Declaration on the Future of Contemporary Art Music in Europe" which will be directed at the EU Commission and other Cultural decision-makers in Europe. That will be available here soon. The ECF is one of three member pillars to ECSA, the European Composer and Songwriter Alliance. The other two are FFACE (Federation of Film and Audiovisual Composers of Europe) and APCOE (the Alliance of Popoluar Composer Organisations in Europe). ECSA represents the interests of all three types of composer in the European context. ECSA also met during the Glasgow ArtMusFair.

AIC was represented by John McLachlan, who together with David Stoll of BASCA and a committee from the board of ECF, wrote the text of the declaration. BASCA is the British Academy of Songwriters Composers and Authors, see www.basca.co.uk
