Ireland was represented at Lithuania in the ISCM World Music Days festival 2008. The festival ran for 16 days across October and November. On October 30th Grainne Mulvey's orchestral piece Akanos received a very good performance from the National Symphony Orchestra of Lithuania. The piece was sent by AIC as part of the National Submission last year.
Currently we await word from Sweden, who are to host the 2009 edition of the festival. Our National submission was made last June, consisting of the following:
Derek Ball Ceol Chrann na Gaoithe wind quintet
Greg Caffrey Ett Mobilt Hem sound/visual installation
Fergal Dowling Manchester Material electro acoustic (8 channel)
Gráinne Mulvey Stabat Mater a cappella choir
Vincent Kennedy What’sa Heaven for? symphonic wind band
See www.listentotheworld.se for developments on the programme of the next festival.
