
Andrew Purcell was born in Clonmel, Co. Tipperary, Ireland. He studied at Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) and Maynooth University, where he was awarded an MA in composition in 2001. His composition teachers have included Martin O’Leary, Eric Sweeney, and John Buckley. He has also attended workshops with Nicola le Fanu and the late James Wilson.
Andrew Purcell’s works have been preformed by numerous performers including the NUI Maynooth Chamber Choir, Kenneth Edge, and Colette McGahon.
Awards include first prize in the 2001 Feis Ceoil/IMRO composition competition and the 2002 Mostly Modern/AIC composition prize.
