AIC Member - Jane O’Leary


Born in the U.S. in Hartford, Connecticut, Jane O’Leary has been resident in Ireland since 1972. She is a graduate of Vassar College and holds a PhD in composition from Princeton University, where she studied with Milton Babbitt among others. She was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Music Degree by the National University of Ireland in 2007. She is a member of Aosdána, Ireland’s state-sponsored academy of creative artists.

Her music has been performed worldwide, including the Chicago Cultural Center, the Kennedy Center, Washington DC, the Lincoln Center, NY, and at Carnegie Hall, and it has featured on two occasions in the ISCM World Music Days festival. The RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra has included her music in national tours, and on their international tour in 2003, to the USA. A CD of her chamber music was released on the Capstone label in 2007, which featured performances by the ConTempo Quartet, the RTÉ Vanbrugh Quartet, Concorde, Paul Roe, and Garth Knox.

As artistic director and pianist of contemporary music ensemble Concorde, Jane O’Leary has performed and promoted new music in over a dozen countries. She teaches composition at the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama in Dublin and lives in Galway. She is artistic director of the classical music promoter Music for Galway.
