
Eunan McCreesh was born in County Armagh, Northern Ireland. He is a graduate of the University of Ulster and Queen’s University, Belfast. He has studied composition with James Clarke and Agustín Fernández.
He graduated in 1997with an MPhil in Composition. Shortly after, he was commissioned to write a piece for combined local choirs, which was performed at St Patrick’s Cathedral, New York, and also in the White House, Washington DC, in March 1998. His string quartet, the mutiny of angels, was awarded first prize at the Sligo Contemporary Music Festival in November 2000, performed by the Vogler String Quartet. His piano trio, The Famished Road, was runner-up in the same competition in 1998. He has had works shortlisted for performance by the Society for the Promotion of New Music (SPNM) in the 2001/2002 season.
Eunan McCreesh is currently undertaking a a PhD in composition at Queen’s University, Belfast, and is head of music at St Catherine’s College for Girls in Armagh.
