
Jerome de Bromhead
Born Waterford 1945
Jerome de Bromhead studied with Irish composers A.J. Potter, James Wilson and Seoirse Bodley, and later with with the Italian composer Franco Donatoni. He is a member of Aosdána, Ireland's academy of creative artists. His output includes orchestral, vocal and chamber music, and he has had many works performed and broadcast around the world, among them his harpsichord piece "Flux" which was performed at the ISCM Music Days in 1987 and is now published by Tonos of Darmstadt. A number of his compositions have represented Ireland at the International Rostrum of Composers at UNESCO in Paris, most notably his Symphony No.1, which was broadcast in several countries. One of his early works "Gemini" is included on a CD of contemporary Irish guitar music played by John Feeley, who commissioned his Guitar Concerto, which was premiered in 1996. In 1994 injuries received in a traffic accident forced his retirement from his post as a Senior Music Producer in RTE (the Irish national broadcasting organisation). Most recently his Symphony No.2 was performed by the RTE National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland at the National Concert Hall in Dublin in January 2008.
